01 / CarMax / Frontend architecture

A foundation for auto finance.

A customer finance account is more than a dashboard. It connects payments, payoff information, transaction history, and feedback in one experience. I established the frontend architecture and built the CarMax Auto Finance site from the ground up.

01

Establish the foundation

I built the frontend with React, TypeScript, and Vite, using TanStack Router, Query, and Store for navigation, server data, and application state. Material UI with custom CarMax theming provided the shared interface foundation.

  • Established the application architecture and shared frontend patterns.
  • Delivered authentication and routing.
  • Connected the dashboard to backend APIs.
02

Connect the customer experience

The work extended from the application foundation to the interactions customers use to manage their accounts. I delivered payment, payoff, transaction, and feedback experiences alongside the platform capabilities that supported them.

  • Integrated feature flags and telemetry.
  • Built resilience into the frontend experience.
  • Worked across shared infrastructure and customer-facing features.
03

Support the team behind the product

I also designed Demo Mode: an API mocking environment aligned to the agreed OpenAPI specification. It let frontend development, QA, and product demonstrations run without a live backend. The team adopted it for daily work.

04

Connect the delivery workflow

I built 20 reusable AI agent skills and repository guidance, then connected engineering workflows through GitHub, Azure DevOps, Figma, and MCP integrations. The work covered story creation, pull request preparation, QA criteria, deployment traceability, semantic versioning, and production release notes.

The outcome

An established frontend foundation spanning the account platform, shared UI, customer finance experiences, and the workflows used to deliver them.

Next project

Keep building. Even without a backend.
